Kickboxing preparations intensifies

Championships in Brazil early next month.
Zimbabwe is expected to send two fighters – Brighton Tangata and Absolom Chiturumane.
The championships are scheduled to run from May 11 to 14 and are expected to attract fighters from across the world.
Zika president, Tony Kamangira, who is also the national coach, said they have intensified their preparations for the event.
“The preparations are going on well and we have intensified our training with the fighters.
“We are now working on techniques and endurance because in terms of fitness level fitness level we are okay.
“The guys have been responding very well,” said Kamangira.
Zimbabwe will be making their first appearance at the championships.
The national team coach said the event was an opportunity for them to market themselves.
“This is going to be our first time to compete in the World Championships and that is why we are eager to compete.
“The level of competition will be high and for Brighton it is a big opportunity for him to go international because he has been doing well at national and regional level respectively,” Kamangira said.
Chiturumane said they were looking forward to take part in the global competition.
“We have been training very hard because this is going to be a bit more challenging since it is a World Cup. “We have been to regional competitions but have never been to the World Championships and we are trying to work more on endurance because we do not know the people we are going to fight,” said Chiturumane.
Chiturumane said the competition was good for local fighters, as they will gain international exposure. “Here in Zimbabwe kickboxing is still developing and we are not yet well established.
“We need international exposure and maybe if we do well at the World Championships people will start to appreciate the sport,” said Chiturumane.
