WHEN Kelvin Kaindu took over at Dynamos for the last 12 games of the 2025 season, few gave him a chance of saving DeMbare from relegation.
His first match against MWOS, a 1-0 win on August 2, marked the start of a journey that earned him a place in the Glamour Boys’ archives.
They were unbeaten right up to the end, surviving relegation on the last day of action in the process.
But a lot has happened since then.
DeMbare have since brought in a new coach and assembled a new team, which is doing reasonably well this season.
Kaindu walked away after accomplishing his mission and is now part of the newcomers, Hardrock, who are top of the table.
On Sunday, the Zambian coach comes face-to-face with DeMbare for the first time since he left Vietnam singing his name.
“For now I focus on Hardrock, and not any other team,” Kaindu said yesterday.
Asked about how it feels to face his former team, he said:
“I can’t focus much on them, but what I’m trying to build (here).
“Playing Dynamos is like playing any other opponent, I’m told they have a better side than the one we had last season.
“For us, it’s an important game like any other game. We know we will be playing the giants, with the pedigree that they have. We just need to be on top of our game.”
Hardrock are currently on 27 points, after 13 games, tied on points with CAPS United at the top, but they have a superior goal difference.
Dynamos have 21 points from the same number of games, and are eager to catch up with the pacesetters.
Hardrock saw Scottland win the league title in their first season in the domestic Premiership and they also believe they can do it.
For that to come true, they will have to pass the tests which are offered by the likes of DeMbare.
They were held to a draw at home by Scottland, they lost to Highlanders and they were also beaten by CAPS United at Rufaro.
A win on Sunday will be huge for them.
And their coach.
