A GOKWE man who threatened a female security guard with two knives in a brazen daylight robbery has been jailed for a year after being busted by angry farm workers.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), 30-year-old Simon Madwala was convicted at the Inyathi Magistrates’ Court on robbery charges stemming from a chilling incident at Marry Allen Farm on 18 February 2025.
Madwala approached the on-duty guard under the pretext of looking for a tractor driver. But when she couldn’t help him, he turned violent—brandishing two knives and demanding her mobile phone.
The fearless guard alerted her supervisors, and before Madwala could make a clean getaway, vigilant farm workers swooped in and nabbed him. Police later opened a case, and the stolen phone, valued at US$150, was recovered.
Justice was swift. Madwala was slapped with an 18-month prison sentence, with six months suspended for five years—meaning he’ll be behind bars for 12 months.
