KNUCKLEBALL was crowned Zimbabwe Derby champion at Borrowdale Park on Sunday afternoon.
The son of Curved Ball kept in touch with the pacesetter, Pirate Hunter, but coming into the final stages, there was never any doubt about who would win the 2400m Zimbabwe Derby.
Ryan Munger rode the winner for the Penny Fisher stable which won by 2.00 lens to pocket $4 800.
Israel was second.
Peggson was the third to cross the line as Bugatti Blue completed the places. Knuckleball has now won five of his 12 starts and has been placed seven times.
The three-year-old gelding was bred by Clifton Stud.
Meanwhile, the $50 000 Castle Tankard (Grade one race) takes place at the same venue on Saturday.
The coming weekend will have several high-profile event with The Run For The Roses, the Kentucky Derby, in the United States, and the 1000 and 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in England.
