ZPCS acting public relations officer, Harris Pamela, said the event was meant to rehabilitate offenders through entertainment as they mix and mingle with other artistes.
“We are using the Kafest platform to reach out to the community and showcase some of the rehabilitation activities done in our prisons. We intend to demystify misconceptions associated with prison life. Inmates will also have a chance to meet their loved ones in a relaxed environment. We will also be advocating behavioural change among youths and give awareness on the effects of crime. A lot of activities are in store and everyone is invited,” she said.
The festival was launched in 2005 by the ZPCS in conjunction with National Aids Council of Zimbabwe among other organisations. Kafest is an amalgamation of partners who have an interest in the fight against crime and the HIV and Aids pandemic.
