IT’S back to business for the Zimbabwe senior women’s cricket team as they begin preparations for the ICC World Cup T20 Global Qualifiers to be held at the end of the month.

The Lady Chevrons are set to re-group in the capital tomorrow after a 10-day break following their home white-ball series against Papua New Guinea.

Zimbabwe will battle it out with nine other countries for the two remaining slots at the ICC T20 World Cup to be hosted by Bangladesh between September and October.

The nine counties vying for the two spots at the global showcase are, Ireland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, UAE, Vanuatu, USA, Netherlands, Scotland and Uganda.

Zimbabwe are grouped together with Vanuatu, Ireland, Netherlands and hosts UAE in group B of the qualifiers.

As part of finalising their preparations before the qualifiers, the Lady Chevrons will play warm matches against USA and Scotland on April 21 and 23.

Lady Chevrons coach, Walter Chawaguta, says the warm-up games will be enough to prepare the team.

“We have lined up some practice matches in UAE to further acclimatise our players for the Qualifiers.

“I do believe that will be enough for us and what will remain is for the players to go out and express themselves,” said Chawaguta.

The Lady Chevrons, who have been struggling with batting, in particular the top order, received a timely boost as they welcomed the return of the experienced duo of Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano and Sharne Mayers from injury.

Chawaguta is optimistic the duo will bring the much needed experience in the batting line-up.

“We have received a timely boost in our batting resources with the return of Chipo Mugeri to strengthen our top order and Sharne Mayers.

“We are hoping for match-winning performances from them,” said Chawaguta.
