Lamayne frustrated over Nicki Minaj gig snub

Bruce Ndlovu
South Africa-based rapper Gigi Lamayne lashed out at promoters for snubbing female talent after Cassper Nyovest was named as the only act to partner American rap superstar Nicki Minaj during her South African tour.

Lamayne was tipped to partner Minaj during her tour as she, alongside three-time Metro award winning rapper Fifi Cooper, are thought to be the leading female rappers in the genre south of the Limpopo.

Minaj will be performing in South Africa as part of her Pinkprint tour which has taken her all over the world. After her gig Minaj in Johannesburg (Ticketpro Dome) on 17 March, Minaj will perform in Durban (Moses Mabhida Stadium) on 20 March and Cape Town (Grand West Arena) on 22 March.

Lamayne took her frustrations to Twitter after the announcement of Nyovest as the opening act.

a?Bet most of us know her lyrics word for word. Every single project Minaj has ever dropped. Iam that fan. I look up to her. Strive like her,a? she said.

Lamayne also lamented the oppression of women in the genre, as she said they had to work twice as hard to get a fraction of their male counterpartsa recognition.

a?Youall never get it. The constant oppression we get. You wouldnat understand. You are not a woman,a? she raved.

Lamayneas rant was supported by Kalawa supremo Oskido, who said a female opening act would have been more appropriate. .
