A LANDLADY from Nkulumane suburb in Bulawayo has been sentenced to an effective 20 months in jail for stabbing her tenant after ordering her to vacate her premises without notice.

Shamane Ngwenya (34) stabbed Ms Skhululekile Moyo on the left shoulder and pelted her with stones for refusing to vacate her house as she had been ordered to last Thursday. A misunderstanding between the two women arose when Ngwenya began throwing out Ms Moyo’s property out of the house. It was not disclosed in court why she wanted her tenant to leave without giving her notice.

Ngwenya was convicted on her own plea to physical abuse charges when she appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Stephen Ndhlovu.
Mr Ndhlovu sentenced her to 30 months imprisonment.

He suspended 10 months on condition that Ngwenya does not, within five years, commit a similar crime. She will serve an effective 20 months.

Ngwenya said she stabbed Ms Moyo out of anger and had no intention of injuring her. Prosecuting Mr Bryan Nkala said on October 26 at around 9 PM, Ngwenya and Ms Moyo had a misunderstanding after the accused told the complainant to vacate her house.

“The accused started throwing the complainant’s property outside. She threw stones at the complainant and stabbed her once on the left shoulder,” said Mr Nkala.

He said Ms Moyo sought medical attention after the incident. — @SlyCee
