Legal Land Matters conference set for this week

The Zimpapers Knowledge Centre, in collaboration with Zimpapers Bulawayo publications, Chronicle, Sunday News, B Metro, and uMthunywa, is set to host a crucial one-day conference on land acquisition procedures. This timely event, titled “Land Matters: Empowering Communities through Legal Awareness,” will take place on April 25th at the Holiday Inn in Bulawayo.

The conference comes amidst growing concerns about the rise of illegal settlements on agricultural land across Zimbabwe. With the aim of restoring order and empowering communities, the event will bring together key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, for a comprehensive discussion.

The conference seeks to highlight the need to raise public awareness of the legal procedures for acquiring land, particularly in rural areas. This focus aims to address the issue of illegal land sales and empower communities to make informed decisions.

The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development has repeatedly condemned the rise of illegal settlers, emphasizing their sole authority in issuing land tenure documents. Media reports also reveal concerns about village heads illegally parcelling out state land.

The conference format promises to be informative and engaging. Experts from relevant government departments and civil society organisations will lead informational sessions, followed by Q&A sessions allowing participants to seek clarification and voice their concerns.

“Ultimately, this initiative seeks to foster stronger relationships between the government, civil society and communities on land-related issues, paving the way for a more sustainable future for land ownership and utilisation in Zimbabwe,” said Zimpapers Public Relations and Communications Manager, Pauline Matanda.

The anticipated outcomes of this initiative are significant. The conference aims to equip individuals and communities with the knowledge they need to navigate land acquisition legally. This, in turn, is expected to improve access to resources and support for those impacted by illegal land practices.

This is an event not to miss; For registration and partnership, please refer to the latest edition of Chronicle, Sunday News, The Herald, B Metro, or uMthunywa or contact Hilda Marijeni on 0772 884 218 or 0715679405.
