Legislator in court

appeared in court in connection with theft involving 3,5 cubic metres of quarry stones donated to a clinic in his constituency.
Mushonga is alleged to have stolen US$700 worth of stones that had just been donated by a local businessman for the purposes of building a clinic.
The politician is also a lawyer with Mushonga and Associates. Mushonga yesterday appeared before Bindura magistrate Mr Felex Mawadze facing theft charges.
Mr Mawadze remanded Mushonga out of custody to March 24 when the State is expected to furnish him with a trial date. Mushonga, who attended the initial remand proceedings from his home, was released on his own recognition.
Bindura lawyers Jena and Associates appeared for Mushonga.
Mashonaland Central area public prosecutor Mr Emmanuel Muchenga alleges that on March 2 this year Mushonga stole the stones that had been donated to build Mukodzongi Clinic in Chiweshe.
Businessman Mr Sydney Chidamba donated the stones.
It is the State’s case that Mushonga together with Ngoni Chazuka and Nhamo Mushonga ferried the stones to Shuto Primary School.
The State alleges the politician converted the stones to his personal use. Upon arrest, police recovered stones valued at US$100. – CR.
