Lightning kills student

A RUSITU Mission High School student in Chimanimani was struck and killed by a lightning bolt while ironing her clothes last week.

Chipinge District police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Blessing Kadzuraumera, confirmed the incident and said: “The late Memory Nyashadzamwari (15) of Mambodza Village under Chief Ndima’s area in Chimanimani and her friend were in the dormitory ironing their school uniforms when the incident happened.

“It started raining and the student was struck by a bolt of lightning. She fell on the ground and died on the spot. Her friend managed to escape with no injuries and was taken to hospital,” said Asst Insp Kadzuraumera.

A report was made at Gata Police Base by the headmaster and police attended the scene.

Memory’s body was conveyed to Chipinge District Hospital mortuary for post mortem.
