Lover bashed after break-up chat goes south

A “PEACEFUL conversation” between exes turned into a brutal attack after a man from Chapo, Matopo, allegedly lost his cool and bashed his former lover with a metal bar because they were “talking things through.”

Kelvin Ndlovu (32) appeared in the Western Commonage Court facing attempted murder charges after a dramatic fallout with 28-year-old Nkanyiso Sibanda ended in bloodshed.

Prosecutor, Audrey Kufandikanwe told the court that the violent showdown happened on 5 May 2025, at around 8 pm in Pumula South.

Ndlovu had gone to Sibanda’s house to talk about their separation.

Things started off calm, with the two exchanging pleasantries. But within minutes, the mood flipped like a switch.

A heated argument broke out, and instead of walking away like a mature adult, Ndlovu allegedly reached for a metal bar and struck Sibanda twice at the back of the head, leaving her with a deep cut.

Neighbours say they heard shouting, then a thud and then silence.

Sibanda was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where doctors fought to save her life. Her condition remains critical, and a full medical report is still pending.

Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga postponed the matter to 2 July 2025, pending medical confirmation on the extent of the injuries and possible escalation of the charge.

What started as a relationship ended in rage, and now Ndlovu might end up trading freedom for prison walls, all because he could not handle a break-up without breaking someone’s skull.

Love hurts, but in this case, it almost killed.
