Low turnout at fun shoot

THE Bulawayo Chapter of the Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army Executive Interactive Initiative (EII) experienced a low turnout at their second Fun Shoot this year held at Imbizo Barracks yesterday. The event is meant to increase interaction between members of the army and civilians while raising funds for charities. EII chairman, Jabulani Nkomo said while they were saddened by the low turnout, they would not be deterred and will hold another event before the end of the year.

“We were expecting more numbers than what we got today but it could be because of the cash crunch as others had offered to transfer the funds into our account but it would be a tedious process considering that we are raising funds for charity.

“However, we will go ahead with plans to organise another shoot as we want people to get used to these events to achieve our aim of increasing interaction between the soldiers and civilians,” said Nkomo. Close to 100 people, including army personnel, attended the shooting event at Imbizo Shooting Range compared to over 150 that attended the event last May.

The Fun Shoot saw participants compete in PKM machine gun shoot, individual AK47 Shoot, Pistol Shoot and the Falling Plates competition. Contestants included employees from ZETDC, Bakers Inn, Nyaradzo and other members of the public.

Winners walked away with various prizes that included caps, T-shirts, head wraps, bags and a dinner voucher. Nkomo expressed gratitude for the continued support they received from various companies that include PSMAS, CBZ, Nyaradzo, Bakers Inn, Holiday Inn, Moonlight Funeral Assurance, Trust Insurance and Willsgrove.
