Low turnout at Macheso, Muridzo shows

Luke Mafere Entertainment Reporter —
IT was not the usual hassle and tussle at the entrance to the sungura king, Alick Macheso’s last weekend show held at a local entertainment joint.

The car park at the venue which is usually packed to the brim was almost half full, with most motorists freely choosing where to park. Revellers freely walked into the venue.

Inside the venue, Macheso put up his usual polished and creative show, albeit to a sizeable number of revellers.

He went on to charm the crowd with songs from his previous albums as well as pieces from his latest offering, Tsoka Dzerwendo.

The few that attended the show were full of praises for the seasoned musician as they pointed out that his dancers had came up with polished and entertaining new dance moves.

Meanwhile, upcoming youthful Afro-fusion musician, Andy Muridzo, real name Andrew Ngwenya was also in town as part of his nationwide musical tour that also saw him visiting Chipinge town.

In an interview, Muridzo, said he was not a Jah Prayzah copycat, but rather a proud product of the seasoned entertainer. Muridzo also experienced a rather low turnout at his show at a different entertainment joint last Thursday.

A closer look at the shows revealed that they largely played victim to the ongoing cash crisis that has hit the nation.

“Most people have of late failed to access cash from different banks and this led to the low turnout,” said Boniface Nyamanhindi, a local music promoter.
