‘MACHESO IS A TRUE MUSIC AMBASSADOR’

SOUTH AFRICA-based sungura artiste, Amos Mangena, says Alick Macheso’s powerful songs inspired him to venture into music.

The 29-year-old told H- Metro Macheso is his role model.

“Macheso is making a difference in life as a role model to many upcoming musicians.

“He did not only inspire me, but motivates me to keep aiming higher.

“Baba Shero has nurtured a lot of upcoming artists.

“He is a true music ambassador,” said Mangena. Mangena, whose dream is to share the stage with Macheso and backs Orchestra Mberikwazvo’s campaign against drug abuse.

“Most of the young people, who are supposed to be leaders of tomorrow, are wasting their lives through this vice.

“Drug abuse has become a menace to society.”

Mangena, who dropped out of school at Maringambizi Secondary, said he started his musical journey in 2021.

He said the late System Tazvida and Tongai Moyo also played a role in his music.

“So, far I have recorded 27 songs, which include Mbiya yeRudo, Bhora reRudo and Muvakidzani, just to mention a few.

“I sing sungura and sometimes mix it with a little bit of Amapiano,” said Mangena.

He said lack of instruments and funding were his major challenges.

“I would like you to appeal to music promoters to consider rookies where talent is in abundance.”
