Madongonda’s quest for glory

Entertainment Correspondent
SUNGURA musician and former boxer, Landmine Madongonda, believes his fifth album released last month would catapult him to stardom following more than five years of toiling and trying hard to acquire recognition. Madongonda, who is also a proud farmer and Muwi Village headman in Nyanga, said his six-track album, Tariro was a chart-buster and pregnant with inspiring messages.

A hit track contained on the new album, Jack, has been receiving rave reviews on national radio stations. Other tracks on the album, Mhamha Stella, Madzimai, Hondo, Chatibweke and Garikai are yet to make a mark in the music fraternity.

The 42-year-old musician, who can be best described as a social commentator, tackles on issues that affect people’s day-to-day lives such as love, betrayal and back biting.

His silky voice on the songs makes the album unique and refreshing to listen to. “I am overwhelmed by the support I have been getting from my fans. It is quite encouraging that my music is appealing to all group ages. I believe I have improved in all departments. I made sure that my instrumentals and voices are inter-twined.

“I am happy with the response and I strongly believe that this is my best album and will go a long way in marketing myself as a brand. Fallen music heroes such as John Chibadura, Leonard Dembo and Marshall Munhumumwe inspired me and I feel challenged to compose quality music like they did. I believe I am on the right track,” said the traditionalist-cum musician who is backed by Zenda Brothers.

Madongonda proved that he is an excellent performer after putting up a scintillating show at Nyanga Country Club last month where he curtain raised for sungura virtuoso, Alick “Chisale” Macheso.
