Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Sect leader Madzibaba Ishmael Chokurongerwa — whose followers attacked the police, journalists and religious officials in Budiriro, Harare, last year — is expected to appear in court today.
Chokurongerwa, who was in hiding since May last year, was arrested in Murehwa on Friday last week.
According to the police, Chokurongerwa is facing charges of public violence and violation of children’s rights.
Police on Friday successfully applied for a warrant of further detention for Madzibaba Ishmael to today.
The application was made before Mr Milton Serima in his chambers.
Madzibaba Ishmael was believed to be hiding at an area known as PaCross in Murehwa.
Members of his sect attacked policemen in riot gear, journalists and members of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe at their shrine.
This was after ACCZ president Archbishop Johannes Ndanga had announced the banning of the sect.
There were allegations of widespread abuse of women in the sect, with children barred from attending school.
Eleven members of the sect were jailed four years each in November last year.
