The association’s board member competitions Felistas Tongogara said the Cyclone goalkeeper was voted the top player through social network, Facebook and by journalists from two private publications.
“The players were voted for during the months of November and December. They were voted for through Facebook and we asked journalists from two newspapers,” she said.
Black Rhinos’ Kudakwashe Bhasopo and Judith Lunga of Inline Academy were voted first and second runners-up respectively.
Cyclone finished fourth on the log with 34 points from nine wins and seven draws and they lost twice.
Other players that made it to the women’s soccer calendar are Black Rhinos’ duo of Talent Mandaza, Outglad Bhamu, Erina Jeche of Cyclone, goalkeeper Thelma Tamirepi, Nomsa Biserk both of Mufakose, New Orleans’ duo of Nokuthula Ndlovu and Ntombiyelanga Ndlovu and Flame Lily’s Panashe Masitara.
Black Rhinos were crowned the champions for this year’s edition of the league race beating second placed Mufakose, Inline Academy and Cyclone into third place.
The champions finished the season with 46 points and without a loss with the second and third placed teams on 38 and 37 respectively.
Tongogara said they were still waiting for the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer Association to set the date for the awards ceremony.
“At the moment there is no sponsor for the league. We have had promises from some people but we are waiting for confirmation from them,” she said.
Not only is there no sponsor for the awards ceremony but the league also does not have financial backing.
The league so far has 10 teams and during the season the executive said they were not going to relegate any teams.
They said they were hoping that they would be able to register more teams as they want 14 next year.
