THE Kamativi local clinic is undergoing a major renovation funded by Kamativi Mining Company (KMC), marking another milestone in the revival of a once-abandoned mining town.
The clinic’s facelift is part of a broader range of developments spearheaded by KMC, including road upgrades, job creation and improved water supply, initiatives that are breathing new life into a community that had become a white elephant following the collapse of the tin mining industry decades ago.
According to KMC general manager, Mr Ye Jianguo, the clinic refurbishment, covering painting, plumbing repairs, ceiling renovations and the facilitation of medication supplies, is now 90 percent complete.
“The Kamativi Mining Company is delighted to announce that the facelift project at Kamativi local clinic is nearing completion, with approximately 90 percent of the work done,” said Mr Jianguo.
“The project, which includes painting, plumbing, ceiling repairs and medication facilitation, aims to enhance the overall healthcare experience for the local community,” he added.
Mr Jianguo said the renovation forms part of KMC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, KMC recognises the importance of investing in the well-being of the communities in which we operate.
“The clinic, which offers essential healthcare services to the local population, has benefitted significantly from this initiative. These upgrades will undoubtedly contribute to better health outcomes, increased patient satisfaction and enhanced amenities for the community,” he said.
Before KMC’s arrival, Kamativi was a shadow of its former self, with decaying infrastructure, minimal economic activity and a faltering healthcare system following the closure of the tin mine in the 1990s. However, since the mining company’s investment, the town has experienced a remarkable transformation.
Residents have praised KMC not only for rehabilitating the clinic but also for improving road networks, creating jobs, and ensuring reliable access to clean water.
A local villager, Mr Alfred Ndlovu from Cross Dete, applauded the renovations, saying they would greatly benefit the community.
“For years, we felt forgotten. But now, with these developments, our children have jobs, our roads are better, and soon our clinic will be fully functional. This is the Kamativi we remember,” he said.
Beyond infrastructure, KMC has prioritised local employment, with many Kamativi residents now working at the mine. The company has also supported small-scale businesses, providing a much-needed economic boost to the area.
“We are committed to making a positive impact in the areas where we operate and are proud to have played a role in improving the healthcare infrastructure in Kamativi. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the community and contributing to their socio-economic development,” said Mr Jianguo.

The clinic’s renovation is just one of many signs that Kamativi is reclaiming its place as a thriving community. With improved healthcare, upgraded infrastructure, and renewed economic activity, residents are hopeful about the future.
