Makho speaks on US limelight

US-based television personality Makho Ndlovu appeared at the Paper Bag Africa’s Unheard Series last week at Ster-Kinekor as she interacted and shared her experiences working in Hollywood with showbiz people in Bulawayo.

Ndlovu told Bulawayo showbiz and arts personalities that were present at the first episode of the Unheard Series that though she has spent most of her life in the United States of America she has never let any of those affect her real roots.

“I am from Bulawayo, Africa to be precise at first it was not easy for me to adjust to the accent with my school mates and I changed as time went on but this has not affected or changed who I am ,I am African and that will not change,” said Ndlovu.

Ndlovu who has become a familiar face on the television screens of USA and has rubbed shoulders with some of the top celebrities of the world such as Queen Latifah told local arts personalities that there was no need for them to change who they are to attract the world.

“You need to be authentic and be real to yourself, you do not need to change who you are to attract anyone, because the real you is what the world is looking for,” she added.

The Bulawayo-born maestro said African talent is what sells so there wasn’t any need for people to try and adjust to something that would end up blowing up in their faces.

“The world is looking at Africa right now, all you need to do is be real to who you are and embrace your African culture and the world will love you for that,” she said.

Ndlovu said when she is called to an interview she doesn’t even use her short name.

“When I am at an Interview I say my name is Makhosazana Ndlovu this is a sign that I am unapologetic   about my African culture and name, I never tried to change my name like what other people would probably do,” said Ndlovu.

“Use social media wisely, that’s the greatest platform for you to showcase your talents. Don’t use it to insult people, you need to push your grind on those platforms that’s the  greatest platform you have,” she said.
