With most musicians currently on annual leave due to the traditional “January disease”, Chimurenga heir apparent Kurai Makore is keeping fans entertained by holding shows during this period.

While Agga Nyabinde was also active this weekend, the medal for the most active star in January should undoubtedly go to Makore.

The leader of the Black Lions told Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub that fans have been encouraging him to continue performing in January.

“To be honest with you, I can’t defy or go against my fans’ wishes,” he noted.

“My fans needed entertainment, and I had no option but to keep them engaged, as it has always been my wish.

“I can’t afford to disappoint them because they badly needed my services, and I had to do this to ensure they are entertained.”

Makore, who only took a break during the second weekend of January to accommodate “back to school” preparations, has remained loyal to his fans.

“In music, one needs to be loyal to his fans. I only stopped for one weekend, even though people wanted my services.

“I was humbled by the support I received from my fans. It was amazing to command such a large following in January when most of my peers were resting,” he said.

Having made a significant impact in 2025, Makore has vowed to continue performing regularly and investing in his band.

“If you look at my band, we are a star-studded side, which means these people look up to me as their leader.

“I can’t afford to disappoint them or let them down when their talent deserves to be showcased.

“I have always loved them deeply because they are the ones leading me to everything you see happening on stage,” he shared.

When asked how he manages to attract crowds during a time when showbiz stalwarts like Alick Macheso, Winky D, and Jah Prayzah are on annual leave, he said:

“I think it comes down to knowing what my fans want and understanding the venues where I should be performing.

“There are venues where I know I will never disappoint or perform for a meager crowd, and my management has mastered that, making my job easier.”

He also acknowledged that music fans will always find money to spend, even amid economic challenges.

“You can’t stop having fun, no matter what, and that’s why we have been busy. Even during tough times in Zimbabwe, music has been a unifier, allowing many of us to forget our sorrows.

“In war-torn countries, music serves as a painkiller, showing that you can’t stop the fun, to say the least.”

Additionally, Makore expressed pride in being ranked among the best and most consistent performers in his home country.

“I am also glad to be recognized among the top-ranking performers on home soil,” he shared.

Looking ahead, Makore has set high sights on producing new visuals to complement the music he releases every year.

“I won’t stop producing visuals because they define us and who we are. I can’t thank my team enough for sharing the same vision with me.

As he navigates the challenges and opportunities in the music industry, his resolve to entertain and innovate ensures that he remains a beloved figure among his audience.

After receiving the blessings of his uncle, Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo, to pursue music, he has been a revelation and has even shared the stage with his mentor both regionally and internationally.

The ball is now in his court to improve and move forward.
