A HARARE man is being accused of tampering with the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) property after disconnecting power from her sister’s room.
Philip Manamike is alleged to have disconnected power, among other forms of abuse, which were directed to her only sister, Yvonne.
The Harare Civil Court heard that Yvonne agreed with his brother to move her family into their deceased parents’ estate.
“I have been tormented since the time I moved in, he embarrasses me in front of my children, visitors and even neighbours. As if it was not enough, he disconnected power from the room I am using.
“Despite paying my share, Philip is still adamant he will not reconnect the line,” Yvonne said.
Philip denied the allegations.
He claimed the ZETDC authorised him to disconnect the power.
He said he was not aware it was a crime that could attract a sentence of 10 years.
“I can’t take care of my brother-in-law’s family, he should take care of all his responsibilities, otherwise he should move out. I am not abusive, like she is saying,” Philip said.
Presiding magistrate, Sharon Mashavire, granted Yvonne the protection order.
She ordered Philip not to evict his sister from the estate and to reconnect the power before 4pm today or face arrest.
