A family from Makangainwa village in Gokwe is living in fear after their father reportedly revealed that he was allegedly using human blood to appease their ancestors.
It is reported that fear has gripped the Manjiva family in the Midlands Province after their father Stewart Manjiva revealed that their family ancestors preferred to be appeased with human blood instead of traditional beer.
Stewart made the chilling revelations after one of his sons Edward confronted him.
This was after his son had died under mysterious circumstances.
Stewartas initial confession was when he rebuked Edward from mourning his deceased son saying his death was sacrificial since the family was in dire need of human blood to appease their a?thirstya? ancestors.
In a fit of anger, the grief-stricken Edward reportedly armed himself with an axe and threatened to strike his father who immediately fled and sought refuge at a police post.
Edward reportedly pursued his father to the police post where upon arrival he swore before police officers on duty that he wanted to kill him as punishment for allegedly killing his son.
a?Stewart courted his son (Edward)as anger after he rebuked him from mourning his deceased son saying his death was inevitable since the ancestors were in need of blood.
a?This did not go down well with Edward who quickly armed himself with an axe and threatened to strike his father before he fled to the police post.
a?When he caught up with him at the police post, he swore before the officers that he was prepared to rot in jail after killing his father as punishment for bewitching his son,a? said a source from the area who requested anonymity.
The source further said, when the police realised that the issue was centred on witchcraft, they referred it to Chief Nemangwe for deliberations.
Contacted for comment Chief Nemangwe confirmed the incident.
a?I am handling the matter after the parties involved were referred to me by the police. The matter is tricky because, although Stewart confessed of his evil deeds he turned down his familyas request to consult a traditional healer to have him cleansed.
a?He said it was impossible since he was now a born again Christian with an Apostolic sect which does not allow him to consult traditional healers.
a?The family is however, saying his repentance was just an excuse so that he cannot be exorcised of his magical powers. I postponed the matter so that I can come up with a proper judgment,a? said Chief Nemangwe.
