Man arrested as cornered burglars abandon loot and flee

POLICE on patrol in Bulawayo’s Njube suburb arrested one of the three men who threw sacks on the ground containing goods suspected to have been stolen and blood stained Okapi knife and took to their heels.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said last week on 10 May at around 4pm police details on patrol in Njube suburb noticed three suspicious-looking men and instructed them to stop but they did not heed the call. She said instead they threw the sacks on the ground and an Okapi knife dripping with blood and ran away.

Police gave chase and arrested one of the suspects who is assisting police with investigations.

Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.

“Police then searched the sacks and found basic commodities which included 4x 2kg Maq washing powder , 8kg brown sugar, 16kg gold rice, 2,5kg golden , 3x 2kg Gloria self-raising flour , 10 litres Fruitade drinks, 8 Roil cooking oil, 10 packs Zebra matches, soap , 4x 100ml Nivea body cream , 6x 100ml Colgate, 3x 20s Pacific Storm, 1x20s Everest, 9x 20s Pacific Breeze, 2 packs of 250ml Honey Pot maheu and 11x 100g Hello singles snacks,” she said.

She said the accused was assisting police with investigations.

“We urge companies to strengthen their security with security personnel from reputable security companies and we would like to warn like-minded offenders that police are out in full force and will arrest any law breaker,” she warned.

In a related case Bulawayo police last week arrested two suspected robbers Mathew Bushu and Oscar Dzodo who raided two churches –Brethren In Christ Church (BICC) Nguboyenya branch and got away with musical instruments that included microphones, speakers and kitchen utensils with an estimated value of R50 000.

They pounced on C.A.C.Church in Mzilikazi suburb and got away with basic commodities and a bicycle. They also raided two houses and got away with goods.
