A man who allegedly pointed a gun at a motorist who had parked behind his vehicle in Shamva has been arrested on firearms charges.
Admire Mugova (24) allegedly accused the motorist of blocking him before pointing a firearm at him.
He was later arrested after a report was made to the police.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.
The case comes as police are clamping down on illegal possession and illegal use of firearms.
There is an amnesty in place, declared by President Mnangagwa, for those who hand in illegal weapons by the end of next month, but police are warning holders of such weapons that they are checking and will soon swoop on all residential and business premises where they suspect illegal firearms and ammunition are stored. So holders need to take advantage of the amnesty promptly.
Under the amnesty, those in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, or who have these with expired licences, must surrender them without questions being asked.
If they voluntarily surrendered them to police by the end of next month, they will face no charges but thereafter, those who will hang on to the illegal firearms will face the music.
