A man removed his pants to prove to court officials that he was assaulted by the police for peddling dagga.

Police officers, Madaka and Mpofu received a tip-off that Levy Sibanda (44) was peddling dagga. They went to his homestead last week on Tuesday and searched his bedroom hut.

They allegedly found five twists of dagga hidden in his shoes. The duo allegedly got angry and accused him of wasting their time.

They thrashed him with a metal pipe on his back and buttocks. He sustained severe injuries on the buttocks and as a result he could not sit.

Ndlovu appeared before Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku facing an offence of being found in possession of Dangerous Drugs.

He pleaded guilty to the charge before telling the magistrate that he was assaulted.

Prosecutor Sanders Sibanda and the magistrate observed injuries on his back and buttocks. The magistrate ordered Levy to be examined by a State doctor.

The prosecutor said a medical report showed that Levy sustained severe injuries on the buttocks and back.

He also told the court that initially he had seven twists but the police claimed they found five. The court subsequently ordered an investigation of the pair. The magistrate remanded Sibanda out of custody to 9 August.
