THE world is changing pretty fast, so fast some professions have not had the time to adapt and some sources of money have been rendered impossible.A There are those that have adapted and used their new found skills, for good or bad, to continue to claim a?a?theiraa stake!
The cash shortage has taught Zimbabweans many things for example. I have since learnt that I do not need hard cash in my pocket to pay for goods and services, and these other services that I could access at the click of my phone button, I had never bothered to acquaint myself with since I knew I would get my cash from the ATM and transact the traditional way.
Just spare a thought for the pickpocket, who finds they have to seek other means since most peopleas pockets are cashless.
Zimbabweans have for long prided themselves in buying items for cash but that exposed many people to risk of robberies. Now that the pickpockets cannot find much in our pockets maybe it is about time I caution guys that use their bank cards not to keep their PIN codes with their cards.A Sounds obvious isnat it!
However, I have stood in a queue and seen some people retrieving their passcodes from the very same wallets. The other warning that I got from my WhatsApp family is that do not save your spouseas number on your phone as Wifey, Hubby or Honey. I am still nursing injuries after some frenzied scratching and punching from my better half after she saw her number in my contacts saved as Bricklayer!
All efforts to convince her that I did that to protect our funds have so far fallen on deaf ears. I am not budging though hence the thumping.
My friends tell me that what streetwise thieves do, once they get hold of a handbag with bank cards and a cellphone, they scroll down the contacts list and once they get to hubby or honey, they send an SMS to the effect that they are mixing up pin codes, can they get the correct number.
By the time the hubby realises that the message was not from their wife, their bank balance would have suffered badly. So you see the shift to plastic has come with its own risks.
Reminds me of Star FMas latest hilarious breakfast Ndau sensation that said they had resolved to use plastic, which the fellow presenter thought was a reference to condoms!
The definition of a heist is also fast changing in line with the changes in our media of exchange. Consumers now have a wide variety of choices when transacting, what with the use of bitcoins, the digital currency, that however, comes with its own risks.
We were greeted with news on Wednesday that a?a?Bitcoin Plunges After Hacking of Exchange in Hong Kongaa.A Where shall we run with our money and how do we preserve value in these trying times where we dodge the pickpocket on one side only to encounter a tricky hacker on the other?
Bitcoin plunged after Bitfinex, an exchange based in Hong Kong, said it had been hacked and funds stolen. The exchange said it had halted trading, deposits and withdrawals while it investigated which users had been affected.
Bitcoinas trading value fell about 20 percent early on Wednesday, but had recovered about half the loss by early afternoon.
An official said that 119 756 bitcoins had been stolen. It is understood that before the hacking was made public, that
