A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Rusape died after he was hit by a train on Saturday.

Lyvin Mapiye was returning home after a morning jog when he was hit by the train.

His sister, Besta, said Lyvin had his headphones might have played a part in him not hearing the train when it was hooting.

He was rushed to a hospital in Rusape before being transferred to Mutare General Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Bestar said:

“He was coming back home in the morning while putting on his headphones and he didn’t hear the hooting of the train.

“He was crushed on his legs.”

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) confirmed the tragedy in a statement.

“The NRZ regrets to inform the public of a tragic accident in which a young man lost his life earlier today after he was run over by a train in Rusape.

“The accident initially led to him losing both legs before he was rushed to a hospital in Rusape.

“Due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to Mutare General Hospital but, unfortunately, he passed on while on the way there.

“We express our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. May the Lord comfort them in this difficult moment.

“Meanwhile, we urge the public to exercise extreme caution on and around railway tracks to avoid such incidents.

“Stay safe, stay away from railway tracks!”
