AFTER receiving several threats from his son-in-law, a Mutare man approached the civil courts praying for a protection order. Amos Chengahomwe appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Yeukai Chigodora applying for a protection order against his son-in-law, Allen Maringayi, whom he accused of threatening and disturbing his peace.
Chengahomwe told the court that Maringayi impregnated his daughter and 14 months later he started threatening to sue him for taking his daughter, Memory away. He also said the Maringayis were in the habit of sending threatening messages to him. Chengahomwe said he would not release his daughter to Maringayi until he apologised for blackmailing him as well as pay lobola.
Maringayi denied ever threatening Chengahomwe, saying he wanted his wife and child back. “I never sent my wife away because we love each other. Her father is the one complicating our lives here,” said Maringayi. Memory said she was under pressure from her relatives to turn her back against her husband.
The peace order was granted to both parties. They were asked to solve their disputes amicably. Maringayi was barred from threatening and visiting his father-in-law’s place of residence. Mrs Chigodora went on to advise Maringayi to apply for the custody of his child.
