A MAN who allegedly flogged his friend with a log over US$24 leading to his death and went into hiding has been arrested.
A source close to the incident said the accused, Mqondisi Sibanda, is from Lusulu in Binga and his late friend Asilot Maseko was also from Binga.
The source said sometime last month the pair were hired by a villager to do a piece job and they carried out the task.
“After that, they were paid US$24. The problem started when they were about to share the money. Sibanda refused to share the money with Maseko ,” said the source.
Soon after that, the source said, the situation spiralled out of control as Sibanda reached for a log and attacked his friend.
“He pummelled him all over the body. Maseko bled profusely and collapsed,” said the source. He died while he was being transported to the hospital.
Sibanda fled and went into hiding. The incident was reported to the police and after that, a manhunt was launched.
He was arrested last Sunday in Nyamandlovu. He is set to appear in court facing murder charges.
