A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Nketa suburb in Bulawayo, appeared in court after stealing a grinding mill motor from his employer.

Mayibongwe Mkandla appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ernest Muzembi, charged with theft.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of US$250, with four months’ imprisonment as an alternative.

Mkandla also received a three-month suspended sentence on the condition that he does not commit a similar offense within five years.

In its ruling, the court considered the fact that stealing from an employer is a serious offense as it is a violation of trust. The accused, who would expect a salary from the same employer, essentially bit the hand that feeds him.

The court herd that on February 7, 2025, at Pista Enterprise Company in Thorngrove, Bulawayo, Mkandla, who was employed by the company, took a grinding mill motor outside the company premises.

He was seen by the company manager, John Makamazi, holding the motor. Makamazi approached the accused and took him to the police station, where a report was made.

The value of the stolen property was US$650, and it was all recovered.
