THE Chinhoyi Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 36-year-old man to 18 years’ imprisonment for abducting and raping a local married woman.

The court heard that the 33-year-old married woman of Ruvimbo Phase 1 in Chinhoyi, was allegedly abducted by Felix Mumba and sexually assaulted .

Felix, who is also of Ruvimbo Phase 1, denied the charge but was convicted after a full trial.

The court conditionally suspended two years of the sentence, leaving the convicted individual with an effective 16-year term.

The court was told that on July 16, 2023, at around 9pm, the complainant was on her way to the Charlie Base Police Post in Chikonohono to make a report when she encountered Mumba, who allegedly proposed love.

She rejected his advances, stating that she was married.

It further emerged that Mumba persisted, offering money in exchange for sexual favours, but the complainant refused.

The court heard that Mumba then threatened the woman and forcibly led her to his place of residence, where he sexually assaulted her before releasing her the following morning.
