A 19-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced by the Kariba Magistrates Court for having a sexual relationship with an under age girl.
Evidence presented by the State revealed that the accused had multiple instances of sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl over a period of several months, specifically between June and August 2024.
In Zimbabwe, it is an offence to have sex with a person aged below 18 years.
The case was exposed on 5 September after the complainant’s mother learned of her daughter’s pregnancy. A subsequent police report led to the apprehension of the accused.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said The State proved that the accused person had sexual intercourse several times with the 15 year old girl sometime between June and August 2024. A Police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person.
He was convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment of which 6 months were suspended. He will serve six months effectively.
