WITH 15 points left to play for in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza remains hopeful despite trailing leaders Simba Bhora by nine points.
Simba Bhora has 60 points from 29 games, while FC Platinum has 51 points.
To secure the title, Simba Bhora needs seven points from their remaining fixtures.
Crucial matches against Ngezi Platinum Stars and FC Platinum will determine Simba Bhora’s fate.
Mapeza is not throwing in the towel yet.
“We must keep believing. I’m not one to give up easily. With 15 points left, let’s push and see what happens. Until the last two games, we can’t concede defeat. In football, anything can happen. We need to maintain belief and faith.”
Simba Bhora, eyeing their maiden league title, face Herentals at Rufaro Stadium today.
FC Platinum host Yadah Stars at Mandava Stadium, while Highlanders face Manica Diamonds at Sakubva Stadium.
Highlanders yesterday revealed they have raised US$9 900 from a fundraising event to pay a US$6 000 fine for crowd trouble against Simba Bhora.
Bosso fans boycotted their last league match against ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields, opting to go to the club house instead.
The move was meant to assist their team pay the US$6 000 fine that they were slapped with by the PSL.
A day after the event, the club announced that they had made US$5 974 while still reconciling figures from some chapters. They have since released the overall figure from the club house to donations by fans and sympathisers from all over the world.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude. Thanks to the generosity of our amazing fans. We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you who contributed to this incredible total. Your support and commitment to the club means the world to us,” the club said
In other matches, Chegutu Pirates are away to Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium this afternoon.
Hwange will make a long trip to Nyamhunga Stadium to face ZPC Kariba while Bikita Minerals, also promoted to the top league this year, host Green Fuel at Sakubva Stadium today.
Bulawayo Chiefs clash with Caps United at Rufaro Stadium tomorrow.
