A 34-year-old Glen View man lost his vehicle to one of the passengers he had offered transport.
Starlon Mutomera picked eight passengers at the corner of Angwa Street and Robert Mugabe Avenue in the Harare CBD en-route to Mabvuku.
He was driving a silver Toyota Sienta.
Six passengers disembarked along the way.
One of the two passengers, who remained in the vehicle, paid using a US$10 note.
He was not given his US$9 change since Mutomera did not have change.
Upon arrival at Tafara Shops, Mutomera and one of the passengers went to look for change across the road, leaving his car unattended and with the keys on the ignition. The other passenger drove the vehicle away. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.“Police are investigating a theft of a motor vehicle. The complainant had offered transport to commuters from Harare CBD to Mabvuku.
“Total value stolen is US$7,000,” said Insp Chakanza.
