A 38-YEAR-OLD man from Robert Sinyoka in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly stealing a laptop and cellphones from a car worth US$1 200.
Mafroza Moyo was arrested after the police received a tipoff. Circumstances are that on 13 January 2024 at around 10am, the victim parked his vehicle, a Mazda K250 along Herbert Chitepo Street between 13th and 14th avenue in Bulawayo. He secured the vehicle and went away.
After a while, he returned and discovered that one of his car doors was wide open and his silver Dell laptop, a laptop charger, a green work suit, two car bearings, clothes, documents, a black Samsung cell phone and a charger had been stolen. The victim reported the matter to the police.
On the same day, police received information that Moyo was in possession of a silver laptop that was believed to have been stolen and he was looking for buyers.
The police tracked the culprit, he tried to run away after seeing them but he was subsequently arrested near his house. A search was conducted and all the stolen property worth US$1 200 was recovered.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and applauded the public for their efforts in fighting crime.
“We would like to appreciate members of the public with information that led to the arrest of the accused person and we encourage them to continue reporting suspicious activities,” she said.
