A 57-YEAR-OLD Dangamvura high-density suburb man landed himself in trouble recently after he opted to use fake notes to quench his thirst for beer at a local bar. Joshua Madzinga (57) of house number 9465 Pegasus appeared before senior Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura pleading guilty to the charges.
It was the state’s case led by Mr Donald Mudadirwa that on 9 March Madzinga went to Buffalo Bar at Mupfumi Shopping Centre and gave the complainant, Mitchel Zisengwe (21), a fake US$20 note and bought two quarts of beer valued at US$4.
He was given $16 as change and he went away.
“Madzinga returned to the bar after a few minutes with another fake US$20 to buy another quart of beer but the comlainant said he had no change. Zisengwe gave the note to one Enock Chikwanha so that he looks for change elsewhere. It was then discovered that the money was fake. They took the accused to the police where he was arrested,” said Mr Mudadirwa
In his defence Madzinga said he was not aware that it was fake money since he was being sent by someone.
“I did not know that it was fake money, Your worship. I was actually being sent by one young man who was also buying beer for me,” said Madzinga
Mrs Chiundura ordered him to pay a fine of $50 or face two months imprisonment.
