AN 86-year-old man from Zewa Farm in Nyanga was on Sunday morning found dead at a local shebeen in a suspected alcohol poisoning incident.
Natsai Mapako visited the illegal beer outlet around 3pm and solicited for beer on credit, but the owner of the shebeen Moline Makore refused.
However, another elderly imbiber, Anos Mashatini (90), then bought a 750ml bottle of crude wine (vinyu) and gave it to Natsai.
He drank the beer, staggered some moments later and fell down.
He was put in Moline’s house to rest but he later died.
“I went to Moline’s house at sunset after learning about the incident and found my father lying motionless in the kitchen. I inquired what had happened and the people who we there told me that he was drunk and I went back home.
“I then came back on Monday morning at around 7am only to find out that my father had died,” said the deceased’s daughter Netsai Mugomba.
A police report was made and investigations are underway.
