A HARARE man has been starving his family of food ever since he filed for divorce in April.
Joshua Chagumachiyi has also been accused of squandering rentals he collects from tenants at their matrimonial home.
“He does not buy any food for us although we are staying in the same house and we are supposed to be eating from the same pot.
“He told all our tenants to stop giving me rentals and they have to report to him.
“We extended the house together so that we can have tenants to support us but he is denying me access to the profits of my labour.
“When I ask him to buy food, he says he does not have money.
“He can bring a small pack of cooked beans, or chicken feet, for us to eat.
“He has a carpentry business and Public Address system, which is hired by people but can’t provide for us,” she lamented.
In response, Joshua said he was not in a position to pay maintenance.
“She is lying that I do not provide for them and I cannot pay the money that she wants.
“I filed for divorce in April, she is refusing to respond and she is pleading for maintenance as a way of hitting back at me.
“I recently started a carpentry business and my PA system is not giving me returns due to low business in the entertainment industry.
“I do not have any source of income to pay that amount,” said Joshua.
Magistrate Judith Taruvinga Taruvinga deferred the matter.
