A 48-YEAR-OLD man from Nkulumane suburb allegedly stole R19 000 from his lover as revenge for infecting him with a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).

The man last week appeared before Western Commonage Court Magistrate Jeconiah Prince Ncube in Bulawayo facing theft charges. Prosecuting the case, Patience Mudzire told the court that the accused had been in love with a 60 year-old woman for a couple of years, but their love affair was brought to an end after he accused her of infecting him with an STI.

The court heard that he then devised a plan to deal with his estranged lover, this by stealing from her. He then visited his lover at her home and it happened that she left for the shops, leaving him alone in the house. When she returned the court heard, he had disappeared.

Upon checking her money, she discovered that he had stolen R19 000. She reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was remanded out of custody to this Wednesday for trial.
