AN unrepentant 19-year-old man has been re-arrested and convicted of stealing from his mother a day after being released from prison.
Gift Junior Tsika, who was in the company of Jaison Ncube (26) committed the offence on 7 June.
The duo appeared at the Victoria Falls Magistrates Court where prosecutor Mrs Audrey Mukanganya told the court that Ncube and Tsika took an FM car modulator and 30 litres of petrol from a parked Honda HRV vehicle belonging to Mrs Kudakwashe Tsika, who is Gift’s mother.
“On 6 June 2025 at around 7.45pm, Mrs Tsika left her place of residence going to Harare. She parked her motor vehicle a Honda HRV inside the yard,” said the prosecutor.
“She closed all the windows and locked all the doors and left. On 7 June 2025 at around 11pm, the duo of Ncube and Tsika approached Mrs Tsika’s motor vehicle, which was parked inside the wall and force-opened it with an unknown object.”
Mrs Mukanganya said the two damaged the fuel pump housing to get access to the fuel tank and drained 30 litres of petrol.
The duo also took an FM modulator, which was in the vehicle.
“While the accused persons were inside the vehicle they were seen by Karren Tsika, who then informed the complainant. On 9 June 2025 at around 10am, Mrs Tsika came back home and discovered that her vehicle was opened,” the court heard.
She went on and checked it and discovered that the fuel pump housing was damaged and there was no fuel in the tank.
She also discovered that an FM modulator, which she had left in the vehicle was missing.
“Mrs Tsika made a report to the police, who carried out investigations, leading to the arrest of the duo and recovery of an FM modulator from Ncube , who then implicated Tsika,” she said.
The court was told that the total value of the stolen property was US$50 and the value of the recovered property is US$5.
The total value of the damaged fuel pump housing is US$240 and was not repaired.
Victoria Falls Magistrate Mr Gift Manyika sentenced Ncube to 10 months imprisonment of which five months were suspended on condition he restitutes the complainant US$51.
The remaining five months were suspended on condition Ncube completes 175 hours of community service at the Victoria Falls Police Station.
Tsika was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment of which one month was suspended on condition he restitutes his mother.
In addition, two months imprisonment previously suspended, was brought into effect.
