Man steals goat, sells meat to owner

IN a dramatic stock theft incident, a 28-year-old man from Hwange in Matabeleland North province stole a goat and sold the meat to its owner for US$15.

Shylock Zulu appeared before a Hwange magistrate facing a charge of stock theft.He was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison.

Three months of the sentence was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour and the remaining three months were suspended on condition that he restitutes the victim of $1059.

The court heard that on 8 January 2025 at Matshala grazing area, Zulu stole a male goat belonging to Thabani Sibanda.

He slaughtered it and went on to sell it to the victim for US$15 purporting it to be bush buck meat.

Sibanda became suspicious and reported the matter to the police.Investigations were conducted leading to the arrest of the culprit.
