Man stoned to death after mocking another man for being gay

On January 6, police in Harare arrested 28-year-old Benedict Rueben for murder at the Boka Bus terminus on the Harare-Masvingo Road.

The incident happened after Rueben and the victim, 32-year-old Maxwell Mahanzu, got into an argument. Mahanzu mocked Rueben, suggesting he was gay because he wore earrings. In response, Rueben hit Mahanzu with a stone.
Emergency services were called, but Mahanzu was declared dead at the scene. This sad event highlights how words can lead to serious violence.

In a statement on X, ZRP said,
“On 06/01/25, Police in Harare arrested Benedict Rueben in connection with a case of murder, which occurred at Boka Bus terminus, along Harare – Masvingo Road.

”The suspect hit the victim, Maxwell Mahanzu (32) with a stone after the victim mocked him, claiming that he was a gay since he was wearing earrings. The victim died on the spot.”
Rueben is now in custody and will face murder charges. — (afrogazette.co.zw).
