Man Utd’s next steps in transfer plan

The signing of Leny Yoro will not end Manchester United’s hopes of landing another central defender.

Manchester United are set to secure their second transfer of the summer, with the Lille defender set to undergo a medical at Old Trafford. The 18-year-old will command a £52million fee, with the Red Devils now holding the advantage after the Frenchman had been expected to join Real Madrid.

United are said to have a limited budget of £50million this summer and have already signed Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee for £36.5m from Bologna. The club agreed a deal to implement a more favourable release clause.

With players to depart the 13-time Premier League champions including Mason Greenwood, Erik ten Hag could also see more stars added to his squad. United still have ambitions to land another central defender, with the position having been a priority for the club in the transfer market.

Heading into the summer, the club planned to strengthen in the centre of defence, midfield and up front. United still intend to add another defender should they be able to raise funds through sales, according to the Daily Mail.

The club continue to target Everton’s Jarrod Branthwaite and Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt. Sporting director Dan Ashworth has seen the Toffees reject bids for Branthwaite, with a £45m offer dismissed. – Mirror
