Manhunt for roadblock killer driver

Tedious Manyepo, Harare Bureau
THE Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a manhunt for the driver of a Mazda Bongo vehicle who fatally hit a policeman manning a roadblock in Eastlea on Thursday and sped off from the scene.

Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the death of the police officer.

She warned the motoring public to desist from such acts saying the long arm of the law will soon catch up with offenders.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the deceased was part of officers at a roadblock along Robert Mugabe way near the Vehicle Inspection Department.

He waved down the vehicle in question which was heading towards Epworth.

The driver failed to comply and hit the cop as he sped off. “It is very unfortunate that a police officer loses his life in such a way.

“The driver of the Mazda Bongo acted in an unlawful manner and cannot get away with it. The long arm of the law will catch up with him,” she said.

The driver will face culpable homicide charges and failure to comply with lawful orders.

She said that people should know that police officers were also human beings and have the right to life.
