MUTARE premiership outfit, Manica Diamonds’ development side, Manica Diamonds Juniors, will be part of the more competitive Zifa Eastern Region Division One, the club has confirmed.
Sinceinception, Manica Diamonds’ Juniors have been participating in the less competitive Division Two League.
TheMasimba Chihowa-led executive made the decision in order to keep the junior structures competitive and come up with outstanding players ready for promotion into the senior team.
In a statement, Manica Diamonds, said: “We have decided to join the Zifa Eastern Regionas an affiliate and the request was accepted. The decision is meant to make the developmental side more competitive as well as facilitate more efficient ways of promoting outstanding players to the Premiership outfit.”
The club confirmed that the teams’ technical structure from their Division Two campaign will remain intact.
“The same technical team that we had when the developmental team took part in Division Two will remain in office. This is meant to be an empowerment drive that will also see the same technical department being capacitated professionally,” reads part of the Manica Diamonds’ statement.
Manica Diamonds Juniors who are under the tutelage of Hebron ‘Adala’ Makukutu and Clemence ‘Skude’ Mukudu will see Stephen ‘Dealer’ Sibanda being added as one of the assistants.
Eastern Region vice-chairman, Wisdom Simba, said: “We welcome Manica Diamonds into the Zifa Eastern Region Division One. We have no doubt that they will be in the league not to just make up numbers, but to compete favourably.”
