IN a sad development that has left colleagues shocked, a Manica Post employee, Sebastian Mukumba, died in a road accident that occurred near Rowa Business Centre just outside Mutare along the Mutare-Chimanimani highway last night.

Manicaland acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the accident, saying Victor Chikumo of Masvingo lost control of his vehicle due to speeding and encroached onto the opposite lane resulting in a head-on collision.

“Chikumo was driving from Mutare and speeding. He lost control of his vehicle and encroached onto the opposite lane before colliding with Mukumba’s vehicle near Rowa.

“Mukumba died on the spot while Chikumo and the passenger in his vehicle were injured and ferried to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

The accident comes barely a few days after another tragic crash occurred near the tollgate just outside Mutare along the Mutare-Harare highway on Christmas Eve and claimed five lives while injuring several others when a bus and a fuel tanker collided before bursting into flames.

The police and Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe have continued making calls for drivers to exercise caution on the roads during the festive season.
