MUTARE Teachers’ College was a hive of activity this week with the college hosting an international football coaching course.
The course started last week and is expected to end today (Friday).

The seven-day course was being attended by 20 coaches from all over the country, among them Mutare City Rovers head coach Kenny “Bokande” Kachara, Buffaloes assistant coach Timothy “Sicho” Masachi, ZPC Kariba assistant coach Oliver Mataba and former Zimbabwe Warriors striker and Albun Academy coach Alois Bunjira.

In an interview, Zimbabwe Football Association Eastern Region board member Simon Mushangwe said Manicaland was privileged to host this year’s CAF Licence Coaching Course.

“ZIFA brought this year’s course to Manicaland in an attempt to spread football experience to all corners of the country.

“Coaches were being equipped in both theoretical and practical aspects of the game. After completing the exams they will get certificates of attendance and CAF Level C diplomas will be awarded to those who pass the exams.

“Previously we held a medical course in July and after this we hope to conduct Club Administration Course. We consider all these courses quite useful as they will help improve football standards in Zimbabwe,” said Mushangwe.

Eastern Region Division One log leaders Mutare City Rovers’ head coach Kenny “Bokande” Kachara said the course was helpful as it would improve the training skills of coaches.

“Though Manicaland had a very poor attendance with only four coaches, we consider this course very important. It is an entry point to football coaching. We learnt a lot of things during this course and we hope to improve our team after completing the course.

“I hope to get higher qualifications as far as football is concerned,” said Kachara.
