THE inaugural edition of the Mantas Invitational tournament has been scheduled for the on-coming Heroes’ holiday amid expectations of more than 60 participants from across the country.
The Mantas Invitational — a brainchild of the Mutare-based Mantas Tennis Academy — comes at a time when Tennis Zimbabwe is adding more junior tournaments onto its calendar as a way of keeping players active. Mantas Tennis Academy director of coaching, Freeman Nyamunokora confirmed that the Mantas Invitational was set for the Heroes’ holiday.
“Preparations are still underway, but the tournament (Mantas Invitational) has been set for the Heroes’ holiday. It is part of Tennis Zimbabwe’s’ efforts to keep players active hence the addition of more junior tournaments.
Participants in the Mantas Invitational stand to win non monetary prizes. We are expecting to have a good turnout from all areas across the country. Only Zimbabwean participants expected for the tournament,” said Nyamunokora.
Just like in most junior tennis tournaments being held locally, Under-10s, U-12s, U-14s and U-18s age groups are expected to compete. The Mantas Series, which is held every month, the Manicaland Open, which was won by Tendai Tapfuma and the Mantas Open are some of the junior tennis tournament in which junior age group player compete in.
