Maphala throws lavish baby shower

The expectant mom — who has a two-year-old daughter with husband, Nissi Finance boss Sonny Phiri — celebrated the upcoming arrival of her son with close friends  and relatives.

The unique baby shower was held in the evening rather than the traditional midday party and it turned out to be an All-White party.

The All-White party was attended by quite a sizeable number of elegantly dressed ladies who took time to have fun with the former model as she prepared for baby number two.

The entire place was decorated in white and red with tablecloths and round tables and featured centerpieces of red roses and white daisies.

The host, Maphala, as expected of a former model, was dressed in a white designer maternity dress, revealing her baby bump and took time to mix and mingle with her guests during the party.

The Director of Ceremony at the party was none other than the former model’s modelling tutor and instructor Sarah Mpofu-Sibanda who kept the audiences in stitches with her comic antics.

After wining and dining Mpofu challenged the heavily pregnant Maphala to open up the dance floor for her guests and she aptly did that without hesitation, proving that she could also “get down” with her daughter Dineo dancing along.

She stunned guests with her dance moves showing off her rather hidden talent.

Maphala proved that she was not just a beauty but she was also nimble footed when she danced to DJ Zinhle’s My Name Is.

Later on guests moved from the conference room to another room in the fully furnished two-storey house to dance along and make merry with the host.

Among the luxurious gifts Maphala received from guests were a pram, monitors, feeding bottle sterilisers, baby wrappers, a convenience bath tub, towels and other baby preparation materials.

Maphala is one of the city’s beauties who shot to stardom after being crowned Miss Summer Strides in 2004 and later on went on to scoop the country’s coveted crown, the Miss Zimbabwe title in 2005.

She represented the country at the Miss  World and Miss Malaika pageants where she did well.

In a parting shot Mpofu urged women not to reap where they did not sow and not to follow up other women’s husbands but was challenged by another guest who left the audience in stitches with her remarks.

Omunye lomunye kumele ahlakulele ibhobola lakhe ukuze lingaquntwa ngabanye,” (loosely translated meaning every woman must cultivate her garden well and not let it get harvested by others).

Phiri and Maphala left some guests green with envy as they could not hide their affection for each other.

The couple walked hand in hand accompanying guests on their way out after the function.

The match made in heaven, who are both fashion pundits married customarily last year and have managed to keep their relationship out of the spotlight.

As per tradition a baby shower is held a few weeks or months before the expected baby is born. It is often held in the afternoon and guests are expected to bring in gifts in line with the theme colour chosen by the host.
